The Gathering’s Cabinet of Curiosities brings you the weird and wonderful from around the world of conservation and cultural heritage. Today we present you with ‘The World’s Largest Atlas’, currently on display at the lovely, light-filled Public Library of New South Wales in Sydney. Standing at 1.8m x 1.4m unopened – just edging out the previous record holder, the British Library’s Klencke Atlas, by a few centimetres in either direction – it gives you a new appreciation for the Google Maps app on your smartphone!
There are quite a few largest books in the world: this one from 1918 was 16 feet tall:
