Call for Volunteers: Join the Editorial Team

We’re looking for some friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to join the team at The Book and Paper Gathering. If you enjoy uncovering interesting stories and helping share them with new audiences worldwide, you might be a perfect fit.

What volunteering involves

Our team covers a variety of roles and helps to shape the content that appears on the website. This includes:

• Sourcing potential articles in the world of book and paper conservation and related cultural heritage.
• Reaching out to potential authors, perhaps encouraging those who don’t realise how fascinating their work is to a wider audience.
• Following up with authors throughout the submission process, to keep articles moving smoothly from initial idea to final draft.
• Participating in peer review and editing, depending on your skills and conservation specialisms.

Who we’re looking for

You don’t necessarily need formal editorial experience, just a willingness to get involved. We’d particularly welcome volunteers who:

• Are happy to join our quarterly meetings (online or occasionally in London) and contribute ideas.
• Can communicate clearly and professionally with authors.
• Enjoy networking and are comfortable approaching new people.
• Are proactive and persistent enough to progress a submission from idea to publication.
• Have an eye for detail and an interest in editing or proofreading.

Your reward? Some professional development brownie points for your CV and the virtual halo of virtue that will descend upon you for volunteering your time and energy to the worthy cause of freely disseminating conservation and cultural heritage knowledge.

Call for Submissions

Do you have a subject you’ve always wanted to write about, or a project you’re quietly proud of? With over 3500 views a month from all around the world, The Book and Paper Gathering is a great place to share your work and ideas with a wider audience. We welcome articles of all kinds, from practical, everyday treatments to deeper research dives.
